Advanced Musculoskeletal Pain Management Pathway
Experience the fusion of expertise between Dr Mark Kingham (Integrative Doctor of Chiropractic: Sports Medicine and Exercise Nutrition) and Dr Indra (Functional Medicine GP). Elevate your well-being with collaborative MSK care at Nexus HealthHub.
Research indicates that an individual's experience of Msk conditions and chronic pain is influenced by various biological factors, including: physiological changes in the body (hormone imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, mitochondrial dysfunction, metabolic imbalance, sleep deprivation), psychological states of the mind (stress, sleep deprivation, social interactions, bereavement) and environmental (food, water, chemicals, mould, viruses, pollution, seasonal etc.) conditions.
The Need
Mark Kingham and Dr Indra understands that the need for multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary and collaborative healthcare to address chronic pain is significant due to the following reasons:
Our multifaceted Advanced MSK Pain Management Pathway considers your Biological Factors of Pain and our goal is to improve your overall health and well-being
-
Chronic pain is not merely a physical sensation but involves intricate interactions between biological, physiological, psychological, and social factors. Therefore, a comprehensive approach that considers all these aspects is necessary for effective management.
-
Chronic pain, particularly musculoskeletal pain, is a leading cause of disability worldwide. Its prevalence underscores the urgency for specialised care approaches that can provide safe long-term relief and improve the quality of life for affected individuals.
-
The biopsychosocial model recognises that pain is influenced by biological, psychological, and social factors. By adopting this framework, interdisciplinary clinics can offer holistic treatments that address the diverse aspects of pain experience, leading to more effective outcomes.
-
Pain is not solely a physical sensation but also encompasses emotional and sensory experiences. Therefore, interventions must go beyond addressing physical symptoms to consider emotional well-being and overall quality of life.
-
While acute pain is typically associated with tissue injury and resolves within a relatively short period, chronic pain persists for longer durations and may not have a clear underlying cause. This distinction highlights the need for specialised approaches tailored to the unique challenges of chronic pain management.
-
Unlike acute pain, which often resolves within a short time frame, chronic pain requires ongoing management strategies to alleviate symptoms, improve health and functionality. Interdisciplinary clinics can provide continuity of care, offering a range of interventions aimed at long-term relief and support.

At the initial appointment, Dr Mark will:
Review your medical history form and current symptomatology
Mind map your health history
Conduct an orthopedic physical assessment
Why We Do This:
This thorough approach allows us to gain a comprehensive understanding of your MSK health status and identify any underlying MSK issues. By mapping your health history and conducting a detailed physical assessment, we can create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and ensure the most effective care for your well-being.
-
Think of this like a full body MOT, providing a thorough set of essential health screenings and preventive tests. In the second session, Sarah, our phlebotomist and Health Vitality Screening Technician, will test over 50 health markers. This helps with the early detection of preventable health issues and provides a deeper understanding of your metabolic health.
This comprehensive assessment gives us an understanding of why you may be experiencing chronic pain and helps identify underlying indicators of poor health. By offering lifestyle changes before health problems arise, we aim to optimize your well-being and prevent potential health issues in the future.
-
In Session 3, you will have a 30-minute consultation with our Specialist Functional Medicine GP. During this session, we will review and discuss your unique and personalized lifestyle improvement plan.
Based on the comprehensive health screening from Session 2, our GP will provide insights into your health markers and explain the results. We will then outline a tailored plan to address any identified issues, helping you make informed decisions to improve your overall health and vitality. This personalized approach ensures you have a clear path to achieving your health and wellness goals, including improved musculoskeletal (MSK) health and effective pain management.
If there are significant health-related factors that need further assessment or testing, we will discuss and address these as well. Through this process, you will also have access to an array of specialist healthcare providers, including a nutritionist, functional pharmacist, Integrative
Psychotherapist, Integrative Pharmacist & Wellness Coach and our Health & Lifestyle Coach. This comprehensive support network ensures you receive the best possible care and guidance on your journey to optimal health and wellness.
